Herringbone was born around a campfire at Fitzroy Harbour just west of Ottawa. Richard remembered Andre from another group but they hadn't seen each other for some months. Late one warm August night Richard was camping and had just put his kids to bed. Sitting around the campfire with his guitar, he called Andre on his cell looking for some harmony. An hour later they started an all nighter, jamming from each others' folk repertoire, along with roasted marshmallows and a few pints. Thinking it might be fun to form a band based on a common Celtic/East coast folk music background, they realized a serious need for percussion. Richard had taught music with Phil and remembered his natural drumming expertise and extensive knowledge of percussion. Phil thought it might be fun to give the band a try, and now that story's over 15 years old. Since then, Herringbone has been playing pubs, weddings, conventions and private parties all over Ottawa and the surrounding area. The wide variety of musical instruments and experiences allow the range of styles needed to play diverse venues, from coffee houses to concert halls and from kitchen parties to dance clubs.
